Most of my work at the moment is acrylic on canvas. I am really enjoying exploring what I can do with this. On some of my pieces I sketch out then build-up heavily with resin paste before applying colour. Other pieces have just a little relief and others have no relief at all.

I work from photographs I have taken and also work ‘in situ’. I am inspired by the effects of light on a subject and how the ‘dark bits’ can draw you into a picture.

I have my favourite subjects, which I return to again and again. To repeat a subject can be a very freeing experience as familiarity with the subject gives you more freedom to explore your interaction with the media.

Over the years I have worked in pastel and oil pastel, oil, watercolour and watercolour pencil.

LONDON VIEW

This painting is first of a series of impressionist views of London. Painted with a painting knife in a loose, energetic style.

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS               100CM X 40CM                  £525.00

LONDON VIEW FROM ST PAULS

Very loose, quick style that is exciting and totally exhausting to paint. The construction cranes are a great colour against the buildings.

FARMHOUSE TRACK.

Worms eye view along the track upto a Sussex farmhouse. Love the textural tractor tracks.

GATE I

I am facinated by the way that given even the shortest of time nature will overtake manmade structures.  The view beyond denies the conflict.

GREEK DOOR

This is one of my favourite subjects.  I originally did it as a pencil drawing as I sat on a shady step in the deserted village of Mythrios in Crete over 20 years ago.

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS WITH RESIN PASTE         61CM X 76CM             £350

BLUEBELL WOOD

Fresh spring green leaves just starting to appear and the ground a mist of purple/blue flowers.  This is just on the edge of Sedlescombe village but is typical of many of the Weald woodlands.

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS         51CM X 51CM                                £225

HAZY BLUEBELL WOOD

Every spring comes as a surprise as the trees and woodland plants burst into colour.  Taken from the woods around Sedlescombe.

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS 26CM X 26CM   £130

TIN BARN

One of my favourite themes is buildings in the landscape and the tin barn is one of my favoured examples.  How the painted and weathered or rusting corrigated iron roof contrasts with the overgrown foliage is very visually pleasing.

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS WITH RESIN PASTE                                   100CM X 44CM             £350

Another look at a tin barn - lying in the grass on a lazy summers day - gives you a whole new outlook

On The Edge

In the spring of 2009 I have completed a series of paintings of the South Downs. The views all are taken from a high view point often with no fore or mid ground so you feel like you are flying.

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS         46CM X 61CM             £275

WEALD VIEW

On page 2 of my work for sale is a picture called 'Edge of the Woods' if I stand with my back to the woods this is the view I can see, rolling off into the distance, towards Battle.

URBAN I. OLD OBSERVER BUILDING.

Another example of nature taking over, I came upon both these views as I wandered around the lesser known back streets of Hastings with my family one sunny bright day last year.

SHADE OF THE VINE

The vines gave us shade while the sun beat down on the vineyards around.  We sipped our cold Retsina.

THE VINE

We stopped for an alfresco lunch and sat in the shade of vines while the sun beat down on the vineyards around. The stem of the vine in this picture is a twig of real vine and the leaf texture is built up with resin paste.

KEFALONIA

The bright sunlight bouncing off the water produces a quality of light never experienced in Britain.  A great travel memory from 2006.

FIRE TREES
A usually green and lush landscape set alight by the sun, almost melting the colours together.

THE JETTY

A family holiday to Ithica gave me this view.  We had walked round the small harbour wall intrigued by the drifts of small pink jelly fish in the clear blue sea.
